Centro Flamenco is proud to present workshops with Deborah Dawson “La Caramelita” this summer!

In her classes, Deborah focuses on drawing the personal elements out of each of her students, which is what she believes makes flamenco so special. In this solea por bulerias workshop she will explain the placement of various marcajes and remates with the singing as well as the options a dancer has when putting a choreography together.

Deborah Dawson-Mourocq “La Caramelita” is a first generation Canadian, with origins in India and Malaysia, Deborah started flamenco in Vancouver as the youngest dancer to be accepted into Rosario Ancer’s 3 year Professional Training Program. Her passion has driven her to Andalucía where she studies continually under flamenco dance greats Juana Amaya, Andres Peña, Carmen Ledesma and Juan Polvillo, among others.

Deborah has an impressive international career and often tours with flamenco artists and world music groups. Her work has taken her to Russia, Ecuador, Mexico, France, Switzerland and all over Canada.

Recent productions with the flamenco/balkan fusion group, “Les Noces Gitanes” reached audiences of over 15,000.

Other productions in which she has participated include: the opening ceremony for the Rolex world cup in Geneva, the Pachu Uchuk festival and socio-cultural initiative in Ecuador, the Mis Hermanas western Canada tour, as well as several international flamenco festivals.

Deborah currently lives in Bordeaux, France where she performs and teaches regularly.
